Ronald Yancey's groundbreaking achievement in June 1965 paved the way for future generations, culminating in a touching moment as he proudly handed his granddaughter her diploma on stage at McCamish Pavilion. The university honored his legacy by dedicating a sculpture in his honor in 2019.

Georgia Tech holds a unique place in history as the first institution in the Deep South to integrate peacefully, admitting its first Black students in 1961. Ronald Yancey's journey to earning his degree was marked by resilience and determination, having been initially rejected twice before finally being accepted under challenging conditions.

Deanna Yancey, who had previously earned an undergraduate engineering degree from Penn State University, surprised her family by applying for an online master's program at her grandfather's alma mater.
