Doug Liman Attends SXSW Premiere Of 'Road House' Remake

Chloe Pirrie Stars In Psycho-Thriller 'Kryptic' At SXSW

Director Doug Liman, who initially stated he would boycott the premiere of his film 'Road House' at SXSW, was present at the screening, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Liman had previously expressed disappointment over Amazon MGM's decision not to release the movie in theaters despite positive test screenings. In an open letter, he criticized the studio for using the film to promote plumbing fixtures instead of supporting cinema as promised.

The remake of the 1989 classic stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter hired as a bouncer by a Florida bar owner played by Jessica Williams. The plot revolves around Dalton's conflict with a wealthy developer portrayed by Billy Magnussen seeking to take over the bar.

During the premiere, Gyllenhaal praised Liman, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work with the talented director. The star-studded event also featured appearances by Williams, Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Post Malone, JD Pardo, and UFC champion Conor McGregor, who plays the film's antagonist.

McGregor's performance was met with mixed reactions, with some viewers noting his campy portrayal. At the post-screening Q&A session, McGregor acknowledged the challenges of filming and thanked the filmmakers for casting him. He emphasized Liman's absence on stage, prompting applause from the audience.

Gyllenhaal shared his excitement about McGregor joining the cast, likening the experience to buying a dream house and feeling overwhelmed. Malone, another newcomer to acting, humorously admitted to feeling out of his depth but praised the hard work of the entire cast.

'Road House' is scheduled for release on Prime Video on March 21, offering viewers a fresh take on the beloved original film. Despite initial controversy, the premiere showcased the dedication and talent of the cast and crew, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated debut on the streaming platform.
