Chelsea player ratings vs Tottenham: Conor Gallagher bosses midfield battle as Alfie Gilchrist steps up

Chelsea secured a vital win over rivals Tottenham to propel themselves back in the race for Europe.

Trevoh Chalobah powered in a header from a deep Conor Gallagher free-kick to open the scoring in the 24th minute.

Nicolas Jackson effectively killed the game by heading in the rebound after Cole Palmer’s second-half free-kick hit the bar.

The two London rivals both missed big chances throughout the match, with Chelsea dominating early on but Spurs improved their performance after half-time.

Djordje Petrovic - 7

Petrovic didn’t have any difficult shots to save but faced a lot of low crosses and dealt with them well.

Alfie Gilchrist - 7

The least experienced player on the pitch dealt with the most experienced player in Heung-min Son.

Trevoh Chalobah - 7

Produced a towering header to open the scoring and a goal saving block.

Benoit Badiashile - 7

The Frenchman is showing signs of improvement and impressed again.

Marc Cucurella - 7

The Spain international had a high work load against Brennan Johnson and Pedro Porro but did well.

Moises Caicedo - 7

Not as impressive as Gallagher but still bossed Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Conor Gallagher - 8

An all-action performance, creating chances, forcing mistakes and breaking up the play. He set up Chalobah’s goal with a curling deep free-kick.

Noni Madueke - 6

Madueke had a trademark curling left foot effort on goal and his dribbling kept carrying Chelsea up the pitch.

Cole Palmer - 6

The 20-goal forward blazed two chances over the bar and was quiet by his standards, but his free-kick was a moment of quality, hitting the bar and leading to the second goal.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 6

Mudryk played a good through ball for Jackson’s early chance, his dribbling was dangerous and passing progressive. A big improvement after three bad performances but there were still some erratic moments.

Nicolas Jackson - 7

Missed a one-on-one, as has become customary, but he kept plugging away, occupied the defenders and eventually reacted quickest to head in the second.

Substitutes

Cesare Casadei - 6

The midfielder impressively battled to help his team over the line.

Frank Acheampong - N/A

Jimi Tauriainen - N/A
