Biden And Obama To Rally Supporters For Affordable Care Act

U.S. President Biden hosts Australia’s Prime Minister Albanese for official state visit at the White House in Washington

President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama are joining forces to rally supporters around the Affordable Care Act's 14th anniversary. This weekend, they will hold a national organizing call along with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to mobilize supporters in protecting the ACA from potential attacks.

The Affordable Care Act, signed into law by Obama on March 23, 2010, has become a key focus for Democrats as they aim to capitalize on former President Donald Trump's threats to repeal Obamacare. Despite facing opposition from Republicans during Obama's tenure, the law has gained popularity in recent years, with a record 21.3 million sign-ups for 2024 coverage.

Trump's unsuccessful attempts to repeal the ACA during his presidency have further solidified its place in the nation's health care system. With over 40 million Americans now covered under the law, its benefits include protections for those with pre-existing conditions, free preventive care, increased access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, and the ability for children to stay on their parents' health insurance until age 26.

The Biden campaign plans to host over 20 in-person events in battleground states to showcase the positive impact of the ACA. Additionally, there will be advertising and social media campaigns to raise awareness around the law's anniversary.

Trump's renewed promises to repeal the ACA have sparked concerns among some of his advisers. However, the law's widespread integration into the health care system makes it more challenging to overturn today than in 2017.

Biden and Obama's collaboration in the 2024 campaign includes a shared commitment to protect and expand Obamacare. They are set to appear together at a New York City fundraiser next Thursday, along with former President Bill Clinton.
