Renowned actor Bernard Hill, known for his versatile character roles, such as King Theoden in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Captain Edward Smith in James Cameron's Titanic, has sadly passed away at the age of 79. His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed the news on May 5.

Born in Manchester, England, in 1944, Hill's career was marked by his exceptional performances in various British dramas, earning him critical acclaim for his gritty portrayals. His most recent work includes a role in the drama series The Responder alongside Martin Freeman, currently airing on the BBC in the U.K.

Notably, Hill holds the distinction of being the only actor to have appeared in two films that each won 11 Oscars.
